Sanjyu-san-sho-do / 三十三所堂

Sanjyu-san-sho-do

Engyoji Temple is designated as one of 33 temples which form a Kannon pilgrimage route in Saigoku (the Kinki Area and Gifu Prefecture) as No 27 and in Harima (the southwest part of Hyogo Prefecture) as No 1.

Along with many important annual events held here, pilgrims worship all year round and receive Go-shuin, an official stamp to indicate they have made prayers at Engyoji Temple.

Jogyo-do is the training hall for Jogyo-sanmai: the Buddhist training in which monks earnestly recite the name “Amidabutsu” over and over without distraction while walking around the principle image for many days.
